Pests That Attack Gardens
The worst thing about having a garden is the various pests that they attract. These pests are numerous in variety and seem to not be very respectful of the hard back breaking work that the actual gardener has put into the garden. No matter what the pest there are ways to get rid of them and even keep them out of the flowerbed or vegetable garden.
When dealing with an insect pest there are very few things that you can do to keep the garden safe. Really the only thing that can be done to protect a garden from insects such as aphids, beetles, caterpillars or leaf miners is to use various sprays or other chemical resources. Most of the chemical resources are not harmful and are actually used in the home by humans. Getting rid of some of the insects actually requires one to wash a plant with soapy water. It may sound somewhat ridiculous but studies over time have shown over time that it does wok to prevent some insects from ravaging plants.
There are other animals in which gardeners consider pests. These animals are things such as rabbits, birds, squirrels and other somewhat small animals that may wreak havoc on a garden by eating the flowers and vegetables. The most basic thing to keep these animals out is to build a fence around what one is growing. If this method is just not feasible there are other avenues in keeping them away. Spreading dog hair around a garden or even blood from the meat that one uses for dinner could deter an animal. There are also granule spreads that are sold in stores that if put around the garden will keep away a slew of pesky animals.
Keeping a garden is hard work and keeping insects and animals out of that garden is even harder. Most tips for keeping animals out were developed by farmers and gardeners and done so through trial and error.
